This project refers to a building where two different levels and architectural languages coexist and converse, expressing the contrast between the old and new. The first level consists of the Neoclassical Architecture sections which dominate morphologically the entity of the building, whilst the modern architecture section with a contemporary vocabulary is the second. The Neoclassical Architecture sections, composed of volumes in an orthogonal plan, follow the rules of this specific architectural language. On the other hand, the section of the modern architecture doesn’t follow a uniform way of development as it consists of a curved volume that goes into the building. This volume, following the inclination of the plot’s boundary, penetrates between the Neoclassical sections and results in a triangular pinnacle known as “wedge”.  The result of this “conflict” are the in between spaces of the atriums which create the secondary parts of the contradiction between the two levels (open-closed, solid-transparent).

In this project the proposal of the new layout of the store is organized based on the creating process from the designer to the customer, whilst the auxiliary spaces form a functional core. Thus, the space becomes flowing, connecting the classic with the contemporary, elements that reflect the designer’s work.

The aim of the intervention was to unify the juxtaposed volumes, both architecturally and aesthetically, in order to formulate a dialogue between them. The facades and the internal organization were reshaped towards this direction whilst the new entrance becomes the focal point of the composition, through its characteristic materials and colors.

This architectural proposal regards an old industrial building which is converted into a contemporary office space, fully integrated into the broader residential area where it is situated. The existing stone shell acts as a base of the new building, which is developed in height, so as the configuration of the façades follow a course from solid to transparent. At the same time, even if from the outside there is the sense of a single volume, the building is fragmented in its interior, since the plan is organized in the perimeter of two atriums and the circulation is developed through bridges and open stairwells. The atriums function as cores of green, whilst in combination with the roof openings, revert the introvert character of the building, creating a feeling of external space in the interior of the building.

The composition is situated at a hillside with view to the Aegean Sea. The aim was on the one hand the integration to the rocky environment and on the other hand to take the maximum advantage of the offered view. Thus, we chose clean geometries and materials that are aligned with the local architecture, but also small-scale volumes that are distributed amphitheatrically on the hill. Taking advantage of the rocky terrain, undercut spaces accommodate part of the uses, in order to better integrate the landscape. At the same time, the alternation of closed and semi-closed transitional circulation zones reflect the traditional dwelling typologies, whilst the minimal design of the interior spaces and the configuration of the external lounge spaces by the pool, result in a high-quality proposal absolutely adapted to the contemporary requirements.

These similar residences, which accommodate the needs of two related families, are developed in one building, as the composition’s aim was to create one consistent architectural entity. The program of each residence is organized in two morphological sections. The bigger volume accommodates the main and auxiliary uses, while the vertical circulation occurs through the smaller volume. The facades differentiate in order to take advantage of the view to the south that this area offers. Thus, the south façade is mostly transparent and hosts large balconies, whilst the north façade contrasts as a solid surface with smaller openings. At the same time the choice of stone as the main material aligns with the suburban character of the area, while the combination of contemporary building materials and clean geometries underlines the modern influences of the proposal.

The corner stone of the design is the intention to interpret conflicting relations into spatial expressions, always in conversation with the terrain and the area. The relation between the contemporary architecture and the traditional building materials, the conversation between the “inside” and the “outside”, the contrast of private-public, are the dominant contrasts which led to the specific architectural language. First of all, the conflict of the modern and the traditional defined the choice of the two main materials, concrete and stone, based on which the morphological vocabulary was developed. At the same time, the morphological choices of the buildings, such as the openings alternation on the facades which provide different views of the surrounding area, enhance the dialogue between the interior of the residence and the exterior. Lastly, the incorporation of the solar patio, besides the bioclimatic gains, disrupts the boundaries between the inside-outside space and becomes the continuation of the landscape inside residence.

This is a project of an apartment building in the center of Athens, in an advantageous area that offers views to the Acropolis. Both the position and the shape of the building aim to take the maximum advantage of the plot and the unobstructed access to the view, through the use of large balconies. The main façade is developed through a “ribbon” tool and also the stairwell’s recess on the main volume, which eventually create an interesting alternation between positive and negative volumes and a game of light and shadows. At the same time, the planting is dominant both at the terrace, which is fully planted, and at the balconies, creating a core of green in a densely populated part of the city.

Τhis proposal is about the interior design of a residence, the favorable location of which (by the sea) sparked the inspiration of the design. The unobscured view to the sea and horizon was achieved through large openings and through the shift of the interior layout towards the view. Minimal lines dominate the design and don’t act competitively to the exterior environment, whilst the distinctive choice of materiality and furnishing enrich the whole composition.

In the design of this space emphasis was given to minimal lines and functionality. The choice of big transparent surfaces breaks the hard borders between the different spatial units, whilst functional elements, such as the library, express the mutual architectural vocabulary of the spaces, both through their shape and their combined use of materials.
